Welcome to our Women’s Edition Spring/Summer 2022 Capsule Wardrobe here at Houndstooth + Herringbone.
This capsule can create over 160 outfits, and includes essential and supplemental garments to create a comprehensive wardrobe for this season.
Fabric Glossary
Many of the structural elements of the garments I’ll suggest are similar to those items in the Fall/Winter Capsule Wardrobe, but the biggest difference for Spring/Summer is definitely fabric choice, then followed by color/pattern.
Cotton
The staple fabric of spring and summer garments for shirts, skirts, dresses, pants, and jackets. Lightweight and breathable, but can be woven into tougher/tighter weaves to create fabric offshoots like poplin and denim. Made from the cotton plant.
Linen
Made from the fibers of the flax plant, and one of my personal favorites, linen is one of the oldest textiles in the world, popular in hot climates for centuries. It’s extremely lightweight, and although it had a tendency to wrinkle, when blended with other fabrics you can still get the look of linen, without the constant creasing.
Silk
Another ancient natural fabric, silk is produced mostly by the mulberry silkworm and moth caterpillars. Soft, light, and comfortable, silk is often used for shirts, blouses, lingerie, pajamas, scarves, ties, linings, dresses, and robes.
Viscose
Invented in the 1800s, viscose is an airy fabric made from wood pulp, but is considered a semi-synthetic fabric because of all the chemicals used to process the wood. Viscose holds its shape, making it drape well and be more flattering on the body. Viscose can mimic the feel of many other fabrics, it’s absorbent and doesn’t trap heat, making it a great blending fabric to add to cotton or linen to make it behave/look more like silk.
